We Gather in God’s Name

Introit: Open My Eyes that I May See (371, vs 1 and 2)
Open my eyes that I may see
glimpses of truth thou hast for me;
place in my heart the wonderful key
that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for thee
ready, my God, they will to see.
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear
voices of truth thou sendest clear;
and while the wave-notes fall on my ear,
everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my ears, Illumine me, Spirit divine!

Scripture Reading:  Luke 24:13-27

Call to Worship:
In this moment –
where mystic and modern meet;
in this moment –
of empty tombs
and heavenly messengers;
in this moment –
of life, of death,
of resurrection;
we come.
We come to wonder, we come to hope, we come to be.
But, most of all – we come to worship God!  Alleluia!

* Hymn:  O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee (560)

Prayer of Approach:
You alone know, O God,
the depth of the longing in our hearts;
the intensity of the thirst in our souls,
And in answer, you have come to us,
lived among us,
taught and healed us,
demonstrated what the good life looks like;
Then died, to reveal the value of this life you offer.
You alone know, O God,
what we need to satisfy our need,
to lead us to the life we instinctively seek,
And in answer, you have opened the door to life for us,
constantly whispered to us of your love and grace,
gently nudged us in the direction of our best life.
And so, now, as you come to us again,
as your life is proclaimed to us again,
we praise you Risen and Living One,
for the truly good life we find in you.  Amen.

Blessing and Distribution
Prayer After Communion

We thank you, O God,
for the miracles that appear
in our moments of need.
And we praise you for always being there for us.
We thank you, O God,
for the miracle of resurrection
in our moments of lifelessness and despair.
And we praise you for always being there for us.
We thank you, O God,
for the gift of faith
when our ability to believe is strained.
And we praise you for always being there for us.
You are God,
You are accessible,
You are involved.
We recognize our need of you.
And we praise you for always being there for us.
As we seek to love, to serve,
to follow you and to make a contribution,
we can rely on your grace and your Spirit
to support and guide us.
And we praise you for always being there for us.  Amen.

We Respond to God

Prayers of Joy and Concern and The Lord’s Prayer

* Doxology:  (218 verse 1)
We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator,
in grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before you; we kneel and adore you,
we bless your holy name, glad praises we sing.

* Offertory Prayer:

Present and loving God,
as we journey on this road,
help us to remember
that we are not alone,
and some who travel this road
will not get to their destination
without our help.
Bless these gifts,
bless our vision,
bless the work of our hands,
so we might be a blessing to others
in Jesus’ name.  Amen

* Hymn:  Crown Him With Many Crowns (211)

Commissioning and Benediction:
Go in peace, walk with Christ,
love one another.  Amen

* Sung Response:  (371, verse 3)
Open my mouth, and let me bear
gladly the warm truth everywhere;
open my heart and let me prepare
love with they children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!
