Prelude

Call to Worship:  Biographers of the Least
Our world overflows with stories, Jesus,
so many lives,
so many ways of being human.
So why are we satisfied with so few?
Why do we keep telling the same stories over and over,
of the wealthy and powerful and beautiful?
Why do we so carelessly pass by
the rich and unpredictable stories
of the unseen
who in a million magical ways,
make a life out of nothing?
God, forgive our narrow interests,
and our lazy entertainments;
Make us biographers of the least,
who listen to the untold stories of the shadow people,
and bring them into the light.
Give us the curiosity and the restlessness
to search out the forgotten,
the neglected,
the unwanted,
the discarded,
and the worn out,
to learn their legends,
and to acknowledge their place
in the epic story of humanity.

We Hear God’s Word

Scripture Reading:  Acts 1:6-14

Message:  The Glory of God

Prayer:  Weak and Poor God
Money talks and power makes the world go around,
or so they would have us believe;
And we, forgetting that other voice,
join the march in hopes that we may find a place
among the rich and strong.
But, you, O God, feel no shame,
fear no harm
as you walk among the poorest and weakest
feeling completely at home.
Thank you for the voice of your love
that keeps singing of the power in weakness,
the wealth in simplicity,
and the freedom and safety that is found
in walking your humble, serving way.
Amen.

* Hymn:  Glorify Thy Name
Father, we love you, we worship and adore you,
glorify thy name in all the earth.
Glorify thy name, glorify thy name,
glorify thy name in all the earth.

(2) Jesus, we love you…
(3)  Spirit, we love you…

We Respond to God

Prayers of Joy and Concern and The Lord’s Prayer

Offertory

* Doxology: (538)
For the gift of creation, the gift of your love,
and the gift of the Spirit by which we live,
we thank you and give you the fruit of our hands.
May your grace be proclaimed by the gifts that we give.

* Offertory Prayer:
May we hear your voice,
May we heed your call,
May you see our response
May all the world know your blessing.

* Commissioning and Benediction: Your Kingdom Come
The Kingdom of God is at hand – You proclaimed it, Jesus;
But, it often feels like it’s a million miles away.
You demonstrated its grace and showed its power,
but the signs often appear faded or absent in our world.
We need Your Kingdom to come, O God,
in all its fullness, in all its glory;
This waiting, this “now and not yet”
experience of Your reign
is hard and frustrating.
And so we pray for Your Kingdom
to be revealed in our lives,
turning our sickness and sin, our brokenness and fear
into friendship and compassion, wholeness and joy.
May Your Kingdom come to us now.
We pray for Your Kingdom
to be revealed in our neighbourhoods,
turning our division and suspicion,
our judgment and our competition
into fellowship and care, compassion and service.
May Your Kingdom come to us now.
We pray for Your Kingdom to be revealed in our world,
turning our war and our disparities,
our consumption and our self-interest
into peace and collaboration, stewardship and reverence.
May Your Kingdom come to us now.
Your Kingdom is here, and it is coming, O God.
Make us faithful heralds of its message
and tireless practitioners of its ways.
For Jesus sake.  Amen.
