We Gather in God’s Name

Introit:  Arise, Your Light Is Come (79 verses 1-2)

Lighting of the Advent Wreath

Call to Worship:
The Magi came bearing gifts.
We come bearing our gifts.
Jesus, God’s gift to us, came into a chaotic time
with a promise of change.
We come, hopeful that our gifts will bring
a change to at least one person.

Come and bring the most precious gift of all…
your life offered in God’s service.
We come to worship God.

O God, our light, our beauty, our rest:
with the appearance of your Son
you have brought us into your new creation.
Form us into your people, and order our lives in you;
through Christ, the Living One.  Amen

We Respond to God

Prayers of Joy and Concern and The Lord’s Prayer

* Doxology: (55, verse 4)
What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
if I were a wise man, I would do my part;
yet – what I can, I give Him – give my heart.

* Offertory Prayer:
Loving God, like the magi, we bring our gifts.
We bring the work of our hands and hearts.
We bring a portion of our material wealth.
We pray that these gifts
may be utilized in your work
and multiplied by your grace.  Amen

* Hymn:  Shine Jesus, Shine
Lord, the Light of Your Love is shining,
In the midst of the darkness shining,
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us,
Set us free by the truth You now bring us,
Shine on me. Shine on me.

Shine, Jesus shine,
Fill this land with the Father’s glory.
Blaze, Spirit blaze,
Set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river flow,
Flood the nations with grace and mercy.
Send forth Your word,
Lord and let there be light.

Lord I come to Your awesome presence,
From the shadows into Your radiance.
By the blood I may enter Your brightness,
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness.
Shine on me. Shine on me.

As we gaze on Your kindly brightness.
So our faces display Your likeness.
Ever changing from glory to glory,
Mirrored here may our lives tell Your story.
Shine on me. Shine on me.

We follow a great light:
the light that shines
in the shadowed places of creation.

But there is another light:
the light that is the spark of the Divine
in each one of us.

So then let your light shine
and chase away the shadows
with the hope, peace, joy and love of Christmas
that shines in each and every one of us.  Amen

* Sung Response:  (79 verse 4)
